Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year

(Lea este mensaje en español aquí. (PDF))

Dear Parent(s),

Back to school is an exciting time for students and families, and as the beginning of the school year quickly approaches, we wanted to extend a warm welcome back to school and back to the cafeteria!

2025/2026 Prices

We are pleased to announce that Somers CSD students will be able to receive 1 complete* breakfast and 1 complete* lunch per day at NO CHARGE, regardless of income. This universal free meals program is funded by New York state's 2025 budget. It aims to combat food insecurity, improve student health and academic performance, and ease the financial burden on families. *A complete meal must include a fruit, juice or vegetable.

  • Districtwide Breakfast: Paid $0, Reduced/Free: $0
  • Districtwide Lunch: Paid $0, Reduced/Free: $0

Ala carte purchases, including snacks, drinks, incomplete meals, second entrees and ice cream, will BE FULL PRICE and ineligible for this program. We ask that you please add funds to your student’s accounts prior to the school year and replenish them as needed. There is a NO CHARGE policy in place for our district for a la carte purchases.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications

This year, we ask that all families kindly fill out an application. This is helpful for the entire school community, not only does it aid those eligible in obtaining fee waivers for testing, sports and more but it supports the district in receiving as much federal, state and local funding as possible for our students. These forms are completely confidential and protected.  Only one application per family/household is needed. Applications are available in each school's main office and can be found in the "Free and Reduced Lunch Program and Application" section below on this page.  Please note that applications can be processed at any point during the school year, so if your financial situation changes, please submit an application immediately.

Payment and Meal Accounts

Payments to student accounts can be made with cash or a check at any register or online. Please make checks payable to Somers school lunch fund and put your child’s name in the memo section. If you prefer to pay online please visit myschoolbucks.com to access your students My School Bucks account. On this site you can set up automatic payment options* (there is a fee for this service), check balances, track purchases, receive low balance alerts and more. *Please note that once your students balance goes negative the auto pay is disabled and must be reset when the account is brought positive.

Charging Policy

Somers school district has a NO CHARGE policy for ala carte items. Ala carte items include snacks, beverages (including water), ice cream, incomplete meals (missing a fruit or vegetable component) and second entrees. Please be aware that if a student comes through the line with a “double lunch”, the first meal will be no charge and the ala carte second entree will be charged at full price. Parents/Guardians are required to cover the negative balances incurred by their child/children. Those with a negative balance will not be stigmatized or publicly identified. Emails will be sent home weekly for those with a negative balance as a reminder to please pay your student’s debt.

Menu

The school nutrition program plays an important role in helping our students succeed in school. Our goal is to serve nutritious, well-balanced meals that appeal to the students and the school community. All foods and beverages sold or served in school meet state and federal requirements, which are based on USDA guidelines and federal requirements. Our interactive menus may be found online at mealviewer.com. Interactive menus provide you with the nutritional and allergen information you need to plan your child/children’s school meals.

What Makes a Meal?

Our school meals meet federal nutrition standards to ensure that both breakfast and lunch offerings are healthy, well-balanced and provide students with the nutrition they need to succeed at school. We offer healthy whole grains, a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable options, low fat milk, and a wide variety of meal options. In order for a meal to be considered complete or “reimbursable,” it must meet certain criteria. Students MUST choose at least 3 items and one MUST be a fruit, juice or vegetable.

Celebrating Our School Lunch Heroes

As students advance grade to grade with new classes and different teachers, the dedicated lunch ladies and men in the school cafeteria are often one of the few constants throughout their academic journey. Throughout the school year, these heroes of the cafeteria are dedicated to making mealtimes a bright spot in a student’s day, ensuring the Somers students are served nourishing meals with a smile.

Feedback and suggestions are important to our department, not just from parents but from students as well. Please encourage your child/children to share their ideas with the team.

We look forward to a fantastic year!

Thank you,
Jill Weisman
